Commuters in Lagos State, especially those in Ikeja axis, on Tuesday, had a hectic day, as the state government and the police impounded over one thousand motorcycles.

The state police command has also advised car owners in the state, especially those who drive Toyota and Honda products to insure their vehicles.

The police and the Lagos State government also put a total ban on the operation of motorcycles, popularly known as okada within Ikeja axis.

The clampdown on motorcycles, the most popular means of transportation around Ikeja, created stress for commuters, as many of them were forced to trek a long distance to their various destinations.

Commuters around Awolowo Way, Oba Akran, Bank Anthony Way, Isaac John, Opebi Link Bridge, Adekunle Fajuyi Way, ACME Road, Alausa, Oregun Kodeso and Simbiat Abiola Way, all in Ikeja, were made to do without okada for most part of Tuesday.

About 1,000 okada were said to have been impounded by the joint task, which included policemen and men of the Special Task Force from the Lagos State government office.

The image maker in charge of the state police command, Mr Joseph Jaiyeoba, while speaking with the Nigerian Tribune, confirmed the impoundment of motorcycles, but claimed not to know the exact number of motorcycles currently impounded by the police.

In a related development, the police in the state have advised car owners in the state to insure their vehicles with reputable insurance companies, as well as providing other security gadget that can neutralise the vehicle while on motion.

The State Security Service, SSS, said it has disrupted a spying network mounted by the Boko Haram terrorists at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The SSS arrested a suspected Boko Haram terrorist, Sulaiymon Abdulraman, from Kogi State, in connection with the spy network, a statement by a spokesperson for the service, Tony Opuiyo, said Saturday.
The statement said the arrest was the result of collaboration with other security agencies at the airport.
“The Service, in liaison with aviation security of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, disrupted a spying network mounted by the Boko Haram terrorists on August 24.
“The suspect has confessed that he infiltrated the airport with the assistance of one Dauda Sadiq who is presently at large.
“Abdulraman said Dauda directed him to spy on installations at the airport and pass the information to him,” the statement said.
The SSS said it was working closely with major aviation authorities and security, to forestall any possible attack and to ensure adequate security at airports.
“This is aside other measures which have been put in place to ensure protection of lives and property across the country”, it said.
The SSS urged members of the public to remain vigilant and patriotic by being security-conscious at all times.
It urged the public to report all cases and persons of suspicious character to the nearest security agency.

Lagos - An Agege Customary Court in Lagos on Tuesday dissolved a seven-year-old marriage of an office assistant who said that her husband was unable to satisfy in bed.

The Court President, Mr Emmanuel Sokunle, held that evidence before the court showed the marriage of Mr Maxwell Madu and Grace, had broken down irretrievably.

He noted that the petitioner, grace insisted on divorce.

“Starting from today, you cease to be husband and wife; you shall go your separate ways and maintain the peace.

“The custody of the child is granted to the respondent, Mr Maxwell Madu,” he held.

Sokunle ordered that the child should spend part of his holidays with his mother.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Grace, 24, had filed a divorce suit on May 6.

The petitioner, who resides at No. 6, Church St., Bariga, Lagos, submitted that Maxwell, 40 had not been able to give her sexual satisfaction.

“Since I got married to him, I have not enjoyed sex; he does not perform well in bed,’’ she said.

She also said that Maxwell, a businessman, was unable to impregnate her after their only child.

“It was by God’s grace that we had the child,” she said.

Grace also accused Maxwell, of maltreating her.

“Anytime I return from work, he accuses me of lateness and calls me a prostitute.

”Since he became jobless, I have been responsible for providing clothes and food for the family as well as paying our child’s school fees.

“I want the court to dissolve the union and grant me the custody of the child,” she said.

Responding, Maxwell, said that since he lost his job, Grace had taken to adultery.

“She is never satisfied in bed; even if we go five rounds, she will still ask for more.

“My wife returns late at night, flirts around with different men and, at times, does not come home after work,’’ he said.

Maxwell, however, said that he was willing to live with Grace, if she would change her behaviour.

A middle aged woman simply identified as madam Agnes is currently being detained at the State Criminal Investigations Department, SCID Panti, for allegedly beating an 11-year-old child that was staying with her to death.

The deceased identified as Angelina, was reportedly taken from her parents in far away Ogoja, Cross River state by Agnes, with a promise to send her to school, when she was barely four years old. Angelina, grew up calling her guardian mother, apparently unaware she was not her biological mother.

But things as gathered, fell apart for late Angelina after she turned 6, as she was reportedly made to carry out overwhelming house chores. Initial rebuff of such attitude from madam Rose who crime Alert learnt is related to Angelina’s mother, by neighbour was reportedly greeted with an outburst.

The dehumanising treatment on Angelina reached its peak last Friday, as she was reportedly beaten to death by her madam, for failure to carry out chores as instructed.

Investigation by Crime Alert revealed that on that fateful day, at about 5pm, Madam Agnes returned home screaming at the little girl whom neighbours said was not feeling too well. Madam Agnes reportAedly dragged Angelina into her apartment located on 75 Barracks lllane, Ajegunle and started beating her. The helpless girl was said to have shouted for help. But none was forth coming. Then, all of a sudden she seized crying.

Neighbours later became apprehensive after they sighted madam Agnes rush out of her room to a medicine store opposite the building. She reportedly came back with a nurse who went inside with her and rushed out again to get something.

At this point, a neighbour told Crime Alert during a visit at the building yesterday that “ we suspected all was not well. When the nurse came out , we asked what the problem was and she told us that Angelina had fainted. We all rushed inside, only to behold Angelina’s lifeless body on the ground.

On further observation, we discovered a pestle by the side with blood stain and we concluded she could have used it on Angelina”.

Another neighbour who also spoke on condition of anonymity said, “ We are not surprised at Angelina’s demise because madam Agnes had always threatened. At the slightest provocation, she would beat her with any object at her disposal. At times she would smash bottle on her head and at other times, she would use a stool on her. At a point we got angry but there was nothing we could do to alert Angelina’s biological parents”.

Asked why none of them bothered to report the abuse on Angelina to the Police, another neighbour replied, “ Police? You want madam Agnes to fight you? Even if you attempt to rescue Angelina from her grip whenever she was being beaten, Agnes would fight you and ask if you were her relative.

At a point, she resorted to locking the doors whenever she wanted to beat the girl, in order to prevent anyone from coming to her rescue”.

Everyone who spoke with Crime Alert described the late Angelina as a dutiful girl who never complained while carrying out any of the house chores. At times she reportedly missed schools in order to finish the chores before the arrival of her guardian. Most times neighbours said she would be made to finish the chores before taking her first meal either at noon or evening.

“Saturdays were the most hectic for the little girl as she would be made to wash her guardians clothes and those of her two grown children”.

The FTC lawsuit against Vemma has been published and these are the allegations: illegal pyramid scheme, Income claims, Failure to disclose, Means and instrumentalities, Relief defendant.

The FTC was granted a court order to freeze the company’s and CEO B.K. Boreyko’s assets as well as a temporary restraining order.

“Defendants are running a global pyramid scheme that has likely victimized hundreds of thousands or millions of consumers” the FTC said in court filings released to the public Tuesday.

It is a direct attack on the MLM – network marketing industry. If Vemma is closed down, a lot of network marketing companies with a simular model in the USA are in deep trouble.

The FTC names Vemma Nutrition Company, Vemma International Holdings, B. K. Boreyko, and Tom Alkazin as defendants.Tom Alkazin’s wife, Bethany Alkazin is named as a relief defendant.

The FTC conclude that:

"Unlike legitimate multilevel marketing businesses, Vemma reward affiliates for recruiting and for purchasing products to maintain bonus eligibility rather than for selling products to ultimate-user consumers.

Vemma emphasize recruitment over product sales and stress the importance of recruiting new participants into the Vemma program. Defendants direct new and prospective affiliates to follow a simple “system” in order to be successful, which greatly consists of the following four steps.

First, the individual should become an affiliate by purchasing an “Affiliate Pack”, which costs approximately $500 or $600.

Defendants frequently describe the Affiliate Pack as the Affiliate’s initial investment or start-up cost. Second the affiliate should sign up for monthly “auto-deliver in an amount sufficient to maintain eligibility for bonuses, which is approximately $150 per month".

These are the FTC allegations:

Count 1: illegal pyramid scheme

Defendants promote participation in Vemma, which has a compensation program based primarily on providing payments to participants for the recruitment of new participants, not on the retail sale of products or services. Defendants’ promotion of this type of scheme, often referred to as a pyramid scheme, constitutes a deceptive act or practice.

Count 2: Income claims

In numerous instances in connection with the advertising, marketing, promotion, offering for sale, or sale of the right to participate in the Vemma program, Defendants have represented … that consumers who become Vemma affiliates are likely to earn substantial income. In truth and fact consumers who become Vemma affiliates are not likely to earn substantial income.

Count 3: Failure to disclose

In numerous instances defendants have represented that individuals have earned substantial income from participation in the Vemma program, and that any consumer who becomes a Vemma affiliate has the ability to earn substantial income. In numerous instances Defendants have failed to disclose, or disclose adequately, that Vemma’s structure ensures that most consumers who become Vemma affiliates will not earn substantial income.

Count 4: Means and instrumentalities
By furnishing Vemma affiliates with promotional materials to be used in recruiting new participants that contain false and misleading representations, (Vemma) have provided the means and instrumentalities for the commission of deceptive acts and practices.
Count 5: Relief defendant
Relief Defendant Bethany Alkazin, has received funds or other assets from that are traceable to funds obtained from customers through the deceptive acts or practices described herein. Relief Defendant will be unjustly enriched if she is not required to disgorge the funds or the value of the benefit she received as a result of deceptive acts or practices.
The FTC has 5 requests to the court:
  1. A preliminary injunction be granted against Vemma.
  2. A permanent injunction against Vemma, B.K. Boreyko and Tom Alkazin, which will prohibit them committing future violations of the FTC Act.
  3. Award such relief to redress injury to consumers as a result of the defendant’s violations of the FTC Act.
  4. The court order the defendants disgorge all funds and assets which are traceable to defendant’s deceptive acts or practices.
  5. Legal costs

Melanie Gaydos was 26 when she got her first set of adult teeth. Up until that point, she’d made due with just three baby teeth and a few back molars.

So when she was given the opportunity to have dental surgery earlier this year while appearing on the medical talk show The Doctors, Gaydos jumped at it. “I thought getting teeth would be life-changing,” she said.

The surgery went perfectly well: Gaydos was given three dental implants and a set of dentures she could take in and out, since her mouth did not have enough bone to support a full set of implants.

Gaydos debuted her brand-spanking new, brilliant white smile on The Doctors to a round of applause. But just eight months after that episode aired, Gaydos told me she no longer wears her dentures. Teeth, she’s decided, are overrated. “People are more comfortable when I have teeth in my mouth,” said Gaydos. “But I’m not.”

This is just one of the myriad of ways that Gaydos, now 27, is different than most people.

Gaydos was born with a rare genetic disorder called ectodermal dysplasia that affects the dermal layer of skin: pores, teeth, nails, cartilage and even small bones form abnormally.

She has a bilateral cleft palate and also suffers from alopecia, which prevents normal hair growth. (“I do grow some hair but I look more like Tommy Pickles from the Rugrats,” she remarked cheerfully.)

Her form of alopecia also causes hair follicles to grow inward leading to ingrown hairs, rashes, and because of unchecked eyelash growth that scratched her corneas as a child, partial blindness.

She also happens to be an up-and-coming model who’s worked with top-notch photographers, and counts Miley Cyrus as a fan. Or rather, it’s the other way around: Gaydos is an up-and-coming model who just so happens to have ectodermal dysplasia.

“I always had this fascination of being larger than life,” said Gaydos, who once dreamt of being an actor. “I wanted to be on a billboard or on a big movie screen.”

But her first love was always fine art: Gaydos began drawing as early as “three or four,” and was always encouraged to nurture that natural talent.

Eventually, she wound up in New York City, as a fine art major at Pratt.

It was there that she started getting interested in self-portraiture. “I took a lot of self-portraits because, when you’re a student and you’re on a tight schedule, it’s a really easy, fast thing to do,” said Gaydos.

But what began as a convenience soon became a passion. “I think it helps other people to see me in a different way rather than if they met me on the street, and what their preconceived notions might be,” explains Gaydos.

Misconceptions regarding her appearance and medical disorder can run the gamut: “A lot of people think I have cancer, that I’m sick or that I have fatality issues,” she said. “Or, I guess because I look different, people think I’m mentally-challenged or that I’m not as smart as them.” She adds slyly, “Often, in reality, it’s the other way around.”

Gaydos’s intellect is in full effect as she details her ascent within the modeling industry. While exploring self-portraiture, she wondered what it would be like to be shot by someone else. She came away from her first session with a photographer elated, but doubtful her newfound passion would go anywhere.

“I used to hate having anyone take my picture, and I was still nervous about modeling for others,” she said. It was a boyfriend—Gaydos had just begun seeing him the time—that got her to see the light. “He encouraged me to try modeling just for the fun of it,” she said. “He helped me to understand that I am the only person who looks like me, that there was potential.”

School was out for the summer and Gaydos decided to make modeling her “summer gig.”

She responded to ads on Craigslist calling for “unique people” to shoot. “A lot of them were fashion photographers who’d done a lot of commercial and catalog work and had become bored with shooting stereotypical, look-book models,” she said.

Eventually, she set up a Model Mayhem account that also helped to raise her profile. It was around this time Gaydos started to think modeling could one day be a full-time career. She was still in art school, but shooting almost every weekend. “It sort of snowballed from there,” she said, of her career.

One of Gaydos’s assets, and the reason she got to where she is today, is that she takes an active role in every shoot. Her background in fine art and passion for photography means she has strong opinions about the type of work she wants to do—and isn’t afraid to go out and get it.

Case in point: After building up a modest portfolio, Gaydos wrote “basically a fan letter” to Eugenio Recuenco, world-renowned Spanish photographer she had admired for years.

She included a few photographs of herself.

Much to her surprise, Recuenco responded—and offered to fly her out to Berlin to star in a music video he was directing for German heavy metal band Rammstein.

The gig, which fortuitously coincided with her graduation, remains a career highlight. “I only work with photographers whose work I enjoy and I think my personal taste has really strengthened my portfolio,” said Gaydos. (This agency is also probably one of the reasons why Gaydos seems so much more fulfilled and happy than most straight-size models I talk to.)

But here’s what really sets Gaydos apart from most women on the planet: Even with all the complications and discomfort her disorder has caused, Gaydos has found a way to accept herself and the world around her.

When I ask if she ever feels angry that she happened to be born with this disorder, her response is swift. “No,” she said. “It doesn’t bother me, and it never did. Or if it did, it’s because it was something people were telling me I should be upset about. It’s like, people used to ask me: how do you eat without teeth? Well, people with no legs run marathons. It’s all a matter of perception.”

Gaydos oozes happiness and confidence—and not in that grating, happy-go-lucky Taylor Swift way.

This is someone who has been through some things.

This is someone who’s had reason to give up and didn’t.

She’s not oblivious as to how some people might perceive her (she says negative comments pour in by the minute on Instagram) she just isn’t concerned by them in the least.

Interestingly, it’s modeling that’s helped build up her self-esteem. “This year I’ve taken a more active approach in really truly believing in myself and who I am as a person,” she said. “Modeling really inspired all of that. In a strange way it helped confirm and validate my reasons for living.”

“I didn’t start modeling for other people as selfish as that sounds,” she continued. “I was doing it for myself. But what I’ve come to realize is that, in doing it for myself, I’m helping other people become more comfortable with themselves.”

What first pops into your head when you think of Maxim magazine? Women in bikinis? Women in bras? Women baring “under boobs”? Side boob? Center boob? ALL boob?

If so (and it most likely is so), get ready to change your perception: The cover star of Maxim’s September 2015 issue is not only wearing a full-coverage top, but it’s … a man!

Idris Elba — full-time actor, part-time rapper, and future James Bond  —is officially the first-ever dude to cover MaximU.S. without the presence of a woman. Who knew that (in this case, anyway) the fastest way to feminism was actually the absence of a female, altogether?

Over the past several months, Maxim has undergone a major makeover under the strict guidance of new editor-in-chief Kate Lanphear (formerly the style director of T: The New York Times Style Magazine), who has taken the “lad mag” from trashy to fash-y. Gone are the sleazy, objectification-filled photos of women cupping their bare breasts, replaced with gorgeous, tightly cropped, classy portraits of Taylor Swift, Lily Aldridge, and Candice Swanepoel — as well as this awesome upside-down one of pop star Charli XCX from May.

But choosing stud muffin Elba — especially for the all-important September issue — is an even bigger departure from Maxim’s old ways. “It just makes sense to have a man in fashion on the cover,” Lanphear told Racked.

“For me, [Elba] was really the perfect embodiment of what I think the new Maxim man is,” she explained.

“He’s multidimensional, he’s complex, he’s sophisticated, but he’s down to earth. It was funny when on set, I was like, ‘Is there anything this guy can’t do?’ He’s an award-winning actor, he’s a DJ, his capsule clothing line for Superdry is about to hit stores. The guy broke the [British] land speed record, which hasn’t been touched since like 1928. He’s sort of a living, breathing superhero.”

Whether Elba will prove a superhero on the newsstand is another story, but Lanphear seems confident in her pick. Ad pages are up higher than ever (143 percent more than last year), and according to the Elba, just under 70 percent of Maxim readers polled said they preferred the glossy’s new fashion-forward, sophisticated look.

With those kinds of numbers, it’s impossible to deny that Maxim’s on to something good
